New CSN Setlist pages

With Crosby Stills and Nash on tour, it’s high time to update my list of every concert and setlist CSN has played, over at http://hempelpai.com/Music/csnylists.  In spite of the internet it’s actually harder to update this list today than ten years ago; sadly I think CSN has lost relevance to the hard core concert junkies who tape shows and collect set lists. Only in Europe are people still really crazy about them. Here they play placid set of greatest hits to placid middle aged people anxious to cheer teach your children for the nth time. Which is kind of sad- they’re great musicians, who can still perform awesome shows, but somehow without Neil to goad them, they tend to play it safe. I’m frustrated actually, I’ve seen them so often, and I love their music so much, but in the last decade all the really killer shows I’ve heard from them have either been with Neil or on their European jaunts.

This year they’re doing covers which is fine, but it would be cool if they did more of their own material, especially the lesser known stuff.  Anyhow, once again they really nailed it Europe and our friends there have posted some great recordings.  So go over to dimeadozen and check them out!

Here’s the setlist from tonight’s killer CSN show at Wolf Trap, Vienna, Virginia 8/14/2009 (which is David Crosby’s 68th Birthday today!)

    Helplessly Hoping
    Wasted On The Way
    Ruby Tuesday
    You Can Close Your Eyes
    Reason To Believe
    Girl From The North Country
    Guinniviere
    Dream For Him
    In Your Name
    Uncle John’s Band
    Our House
    Southern Cross
    Love The One Your With
    Marrekesh Express
    Rock and Roll Woman
    Long Time Gone
Just A Song Before I Go
    Cathedral
    Deja Vu
    Bluebird
    Allmost Cut My Hair
    Wooden Ships
    For What It’s Worth
    Teach Your Children

Crosy and Nash still sound great, Stills voice has been ravaged but his guitar playing more than makes up for it. Great band including Crosby’s son on keyboards.

    Fantastic show!!!

thanks for the play list!!!! I am going to see them this next sat sept 19 at murphys in california. Do you think this will be about what they are gonna play there? Your’s was the most current list date wise i could find. Thanks

  • Most likely! Their pattern these days is to play almost the same setlist from night to night but allowing it to evolve very slowly, swapping songs in and out.

How accurate was this list at the 9/15 show? I’m going to see them on 10/10/09…Thanks

  • As you can tell the setlist changes very incrementally from week to week. It’ll be quite similar no doubt.

Thanks for posting the set list. Saw CSN at Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, Calif. (yes, they too have been relegated to doing the casino tours!) on Oct. 10th, postponed from the Sept. 25th show due to David feeling “under the weather”. Turned out to be the last show of their summer tour. At times I almost felt like it was “OK lets just do this show and then we can go home for a rest”. The cover songs (Ruby Tuesday, You Can Close Your Eyes, etc.) seemed out of place and unnecessary considering their vast repertoire of original songs. I would have MUCH rather heard 3 more of THEIR songs instead. And of course they closed with “Teach Your Children”. Sorry, but ‘pop rot’. Stephen DID do “R&R Woman”, would have even liked to hear a Hollie song from Graham and a Byrd song from David just to even it up. Graham still seems to be the glue of this trio, if it weren’t for his energy and enthusiasm, they would have gone the way of so many other ‘where are they now?’bands years ago. The harmonies are still good, David hasn’t cut his hair, and they are still stardust and golden.
