I’ve been attending Entrepreneurship Week at Stanford this week. This has been an excellent and informative series of presentations with guests of the highest caliber. Plus lots of cool free goodies. This picture is of John Hennessy delivering the opening talk. He spoke on innovation, a topic he is well acquainted with (Can you say RISC architecture?). He especially focused on the efforts of Stanford to ensure that innovation get out from the university to industry and also to make sure that enough effort goes into innovations aimed at developing economies, for example low cost products that are widely affordable. The best part was the Q&A. He was asked why given his success in business he came back to Stanford, and the answer was that he missed the students. One young woman told him she wanted to go back to India when she graduated and start a university, and asked him if he had any advice for her. He said, first thing, you need money. Lots of money. A great deal of money. More money than you can even think about. (Spoken like a true keeper of Leland Stanford’s legacy! ). But seriously, this has been a great set of talks so far.
